TxDOT crews to brine roadways ahead of forecasted winter weather

AMARILLO – Today, Thursday, Jan. 8, crews will begin preparations for the upcoming forecasted winter weather event by applying brine to roadways across the district. The National Weather Service (NWS) of Amarillo is anticipating snowfall starting later tonight or early Friday morning. Crews will be monitoring and patrolling the roadways for any trouble spots throughout the forecasted winter weather event. The anticipated snowfall could cause some roadways to be slick.

TEA releases financial accountability ratings

More than four-fifths of Texas public schools received an ‘A’ rating for their financial practices, according to the Texas Education Agency, which released the final financial accountability ratings for the latest school year last week.

A total of 969 school districts and charter schools, or 81%, received the top rating for their financial management practices.

AMARILLO – The National Weather Service (NWS) of Amarillo is forecasting wind gusts of up 55-65 mph for the majority of the Amarillo District today, Tuesday, April 1 (see NWS of Amarillo pictured maps below).

Strong winds increase the potential for blowing dirt, causing limited to zero visibility for the traveling public. TxDOT is encouraging drivers to slow down and drive to conditions if they have to be out on the roads for this high-wind event.

In the last annual summary reported by TxDOT, Hemphill County had reported 0 fatal crashes, 0 fatalities, 1 suspected serious crash with serious injuries, 3 suspected suspected minor crashes with 6 minor injuries, 1 crash with possible injury, 37 non-injury crashes with 66 non-injuries, and 1 unknown severity crash with unknown injury. The number of crashes totaled 43.
