Benny Proffitt, 14, represented Canadian and the state of Texas well in the Junior High National Finals Rodeo held in Huron, South Dakota, June 23-29. Proffitt was one of 1,150 contestants from across the United States, Canada, Australia, and Mexico, who advanced to the competition. He won the World Champion Saddle Bronc Steer Riding, placed fourth in chute dogging, and amassed 189 (63-60-66) total points to win the World Champion All-Around Cowboy, prevailing over Keller’s Cooper Lane (62-58-51–171). As Texas representatives, both Proffitt and Lane were also members of the winning team out of all the states that competed in the national finals.
