LETTER TO THE EDITOR: A Note of Gratitude

Where does one even start to show gratitude for giving life back to another?

How do the two simple words, “thank you,” reach the depths of gratitude in our hearts? It’s no small gift, even though as you read these words you might not feel you had much of a hand in this, but you did. My lovely wife Olivia, my kind son Trell, my tender-hearted parents, my dependable and compassionate in[1]laws, and myself have the world to thank you for.

When I fell from a tree on August 29th you do what you do best, jump to action almost as if you are spring-loaded for it. We have seen this several times before in tragedy, but this time the address on the house to visit was my own. You petitioned God to save me. To put me back together in healing. He has, He is doing so as we breathe.

Now, I am sitting behind the light of my computer screen trying to muster the right words so you can hear that I love and appreciate your kindness. My family and I wanted to express our thanks for the phone calls and texts, the hospital visits, taking our son back and forth from school, the delicious meals that showed up at our door, the community support from auctions and benefit dinners as people donated extravagant gifts to help us tackle the medical bills.

It’s been a lot to take in, a lot to try to process. Your Christlike kindness has made this bearable. Late nights in a hospital bed I read your Facebook messages and replies, reminding me God was healing and the simple fact that you all were there for us. Really, it’s no small feat, from the youngest child who brought our family before the throne of God to the oldest, look what God has done with your prayers.

For that I wanted to try in my best way possible to write to you and say I noticed. I am humbled. Thank you. Thank you from the deepest part of me. Life is so fragile, but when you are reminded that we don’t do it alone, it makes each day better. Keep showing up in the beautiful and quiet ways that you do. It is noticed. It is appreciated. It is healing. We love you, and again, from the Hobson family, thank you for loving us and helping put us back together. May the Lord richly bless and keep you.

In Him,

Trell, Olivia, and Barry Hobson
