Shattuck FFA attends 580 Cattle Conference

WOODWARD, OKLAHOMA -- Shattuck FFA officers attended the first annual 580 Cattle Conference on Monday, August 12, at the Woodward County Event Center. 

This one-day event hosted numerous guest speakers and aimed to provide educational opportunities to those involved in the cattle industry.  Breakout sessions included talks from Congressman Frank Lucas, Oklahoma Secretary of Agriculture Blayne Arthur, Dr. David Lalman of Oklahoma State University,  Ellis County veterinarian Richard Prather, and more.

Heat-related deaths in Texas likely undercounted

As Texans endure the dog days of summer, experts say deaths related to heat in Texas and nationwide are likely undercounted, the Texas Standard reported.

With climate change causing warmer days and nights, last year was the hottest on record in Texas. Though this summer has not been quite as brutal, those working outside are still at considerable risk.

OBITUARY: JOE R. GRIST, SR.

Joe Robert Grist, Sr. was born on March 30, 1966 in Amarillo, Texas. Joe passed away on August 13, 2024 in Snyder, Texas at the age of 58.

A visitation for Joe will be held Friday, August 23, from 6-8 pm at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 Highway 277 South, Abilene, Texas 79606. A celebration of life will occur at 10 am on Saturday, August 24, at 5701 Highway 277 South, Abilene, Texas 79606. Interment will follow services at Abilene Municipal Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest with his mother and brother.
