Courtney Kendall, Candidate, Hemphill County Treasurer
Body

My name is Courtney Kendall and I’m seeking election for the office of Hemphill County Treasurer in the 2026 election.

I graduated from a private school in Amarillo in 1996 and met Bill shortly after. He is a 1994 Canadian graduate and we’ve lived here as a family for over 17 years. We have four kids; Sam is 21 and set to graduate from WTAMU in May of 2026. Clay is 19 and wanting to pursue a career in construction. Our twin girls, Kaylee and Blair are 14 and will graduate from CISD in 2030.

Bill and I started Kendall Quality Homes and Kendall Construction in 2006, building numerous new homes as well as remodels. I always say Bill was the brains behind the project—drafting blueprints and orchestrating the project pre-build—while I was the boss once the project started, telling contractors what to do and when to be there. He became Airport Manager in 2009 full time and I had 4 young kids at home that kept me plenty busy.

Former Judge George Briant called me in February of 2017 needing an Administrative Assistant. I hadn’t worked a full-time office job since before Sam was born, so I was anxious, but ready to start working full time again. Judge Briant gave me a chance and I proved myself as an office administrator. Judge Briant taught me the different aspects of County business involving the four precincts, Commissioners Court and the tedious months of budget season. We worked through the Covid years, executing and maintaining federal grants. That same year, 2020, Judge Briant designated me a part time worker in the Treasurer’s office where I learned payroll, paying bills and some HR duties. Judge Briant retired in Spring of 2022 and Judge Lisa Johnson was elected. With her leadership, I help coordinate the County Court in both civil and criminal aspects. I assist the Judge with numerous projects around the County by drafting bid specs, legal notices and helping coordinate contractors. I worked closely with the Judge, Emergency Coordinators and committees through the stressful months following the Smokehouse Creek Fire. I call our office Grand Central Station as we see and assist the community in numerous ways daily.

Now that our kids are older, I can focus more on my career and accept more responsibility. Since working some in the Treasurer’s office the past 5 years, the opportunity this next year to run for the position full time would benefit my family in numerous ways and challenge me personally for improvement in my career life. I’m ready for new responsibility as I feel I’ve proven I work well with others, can multitask, and am eager to learn new tasks.

I’m thankful for new grace every morning and new seasons of life. It’s time to walk in that new season as I pursue a bigger role. Becoming Treasurer, I will still serve the employees and citizens of Hemphill County just as I have in the Judge’s office, but in a grander role. I would appreciate and graciously ask for your vote in the Republican Primary Election on March 3, 2026.
